SDG 4 aims to ensure inclusive, equitable, and quality education, and to promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Yet access to quality education remains unequal.

Key facts:

β€’ Around 244 million children and youth are out of school worldwide
β€’ 7 in 10 children in low- and middle-income countries cannot read a simple text by age 10
β€’ Nearly 771 million adults are illiterate, the majority of whom are women
β€’ Less than 50% of students achieve minimum proficiency in reading and mathematics in several regions
β€’ Lack of infrastructure and qualified teachers remains a major challenge

Education is key to reducing inequalities, ending poverty, and promoting sustainable development.

Challenges, but above all opportunities:

Access to education & social innovation
Millions of children and young people remain excluded from education systems. The Social and Solidarity Economy offers opportunities through community schools, EdTech solutions, and inclusive programs to democratize learning.

Training & employability
The gap between education and the labor market limits youth opportunities. Expanding vocational training, apprenticeships, and reskilling programs is a key opportunity to strengthen employability.

Inclusive education & equal opportunities
Gender and social inequalities still limit access to fair education. Inclusive initiatives targeting girls and vulnerable populations represent a high-impact opportunity.

Digital learning & accessibility
Limited access to digital tools increases educational inequalities. Investing in inclusive digital solutions helps expand access to quality education at scale.

Investing in education means investing in the future, innovation, and stability of societies.
